We’ve made it a tradition in our family to make a commotion when we hear Daddy’s car driving up in the driveway when he gets home from work. We all stop what we are doing, run to the door to open it, and greet him with a, “Daddy’s home! Daddy’s home! Daddy’s home!” song (and sometimes even a little dance). We all then get to give him a kiss – Mommy first, then the kids.
Likewise, when Daddy is home with the kids when Mommy is running errands or just away from the house, she is greeted with the same welcome. It’s just a fun way to greet each other, either at the end of the day or when just being away for an hour or two. It also makes the other look forward to coming home and the kids enjoy the tradition that we are sure they will definitely remember.
