This passage reminds us that God gave us the capacity of choice. We can choose to serve God or not. We are not islands. If we choose not to serve God, we are choosing to serve some other god. The things we say and do represent whom and what we serve. Like Joshua, we’ve decided that our family will serve the Lord.
This passage also reminds us that Joshua, as the father/man of his household, leads and speaks for his family. It is a responsibility that is very important in leading a family to God. Fathers have a great influence in their children’s upbringing as well as where the future of the family is led – as much as mothers do, but in a different capacity and through a different role they play.
How wonderful it is when a father leads his family to serve God!
Sincerely,

A all time favorite verse here! Sweet picture too. We need more fathers like Joshua.
I love how the picture is a double reminder, in a manner of speaking, that if we have Jesus “living” in our hearts that our house will serve him.
