Our first ALOHA FRIDAY here at FamilyVenue!!!

alohafriday

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So on Fridays at FamilyVenue we’ll take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, we’ll ask a simple question for you to answer – nothing that requires a lengthy response!

I was just thinking of my Dad today. I have lots of fond memories with him as a child. A remember one that stands out: he used to tell us stories almost every night. My favorite was Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Not reading from a book, but from memory. He was a great storyteller. He also loved to sing and I remember wanting to sing a few songs he was singing and he typed up the lyrics for me and my sister to sing from. I also remember him teaching me how to tell time with an analog clock and how to read a map before we did at school. I love you, Daddy! -Angela

So for today’s question…

What is the fondest childhood memory you have of your Dad?

Post YOUR answer in the comments section!

Sincerely,
The Greenbergs :)

At this point, any memory with my father is a cherished memory.

One of my best memories is going to an amusement park for a special day with my father and uncle. This was a big sister special day. They took me and did everything that I wanted that day to help me adjust to my new little brother.

Ooh, I like your AF pic, may I copy it?
One of my best memories with my Dad was when he would come to the special lunches the school would have for honor roll students. It was only the two of us, but I felt special, since I didn’t have to share that moment with my sister.
Saturday mornings, we would stay in pajamas, watch cartoons, and eat junk food. Sometimes, he would get a can of black olives and stick them on his finger like they were alien fingers – lots of fun.

Hi Laufa, thanks for sharing. I don’t own the pic. I actually got it from Kailani’s website.

I don’t have one of my dad since he wasn’t involved in my life. But I have one of my grandpa! He was a fantastic guy :D My fondest memory was when he took me fishing on his boat, just him and me. And I caught a baby Crappy, I was so excited! Then we took the catfish he caught home with us and he tried to get me to kill the fish with a hammer so he could clean it. I couldn’t do it! That really is one of my favorite memories with him.

This is definitely a hard one..I have so many fond memories which is a Godsend as he passed away when I was 16 yrs old. The vacations we went on, when he ordered me my own phone number (back then that never happened) so I wouldn’t tie up the house phone. The family get togethers (he was one of eight). But the best happened a couple of months before he died. He was a race car driver when he was in his 20/30s..he wasn’t able to teach me to drive due to his illness, pancreatic cancer. After getting my license, I asked him to take a ride with me to run errands for the family business so he could get out of the house. While driving, he said (and I will never forget his words or the look on his face) Ohhhhh, slow down !!!! Who do you think you are, Mario Andreditti? And my response was
No…I’m my father’s daughter..guess its in the blood. He just looked at me and smiled as proud as he could be but I caught him white knuckling the seat. That was 37 yrs ago.

When I was a little girl I used to go strawberry picking with my dad every summer. I loved it and looked forward to it every year.

Hey everyone, thanks for sharing!  I left something out of the post actually… my Dad passed away a few years ago and because of divorce the last time I saw him was when I was 12.  I am grateful, though, that I have such sweet and happy memories with him!  -Angela

I was 11 or 12, my father taught me how to protect myself while dancing with guys and he gave me the most practical advice on love – ‘choose wisely’.

I have two – one is playing catch with me in the backyard. The other is when he bought me lemon doughnuts when I was pregnant and marked the box with all these funny sayings like “for the pregnant woman only.” It was touching and funny.
